Education In India

Respected Sir,

India have the most educated people in the word. CEO’s of biggest company in the world like Google, Microsoft, IBM, and Adobe are none other than Indian’s. Even so India also have many educated people with creative thinking and mind-blowing talents running big giants like Oyo, Ola, Byjus, Paytm all owned by India youth. An estimate says that 40% of total wealth of India is in top 1% brains.

So, we can conclude that India students are very brilliant. To some extent (looking at top 1%) it is true but what about 99% of Indians or specifically student. Don’t they learn, grow and level up in the same country. Having some exceptional students is the different thing but it’s 99% of the student. There is very big inequality which have to address and steps should be taken to make that 1% 99% of us.

First of all, nothing is perfect. That has to be accepted. There are flaws in our system. Our system tends to information rather than knowledge. We give our students information i.e. When did the x thing happened or what did the x person do. I would say information should be given we should have a perfect balance between information and knowledge. But our system has more information rather that education we should try to give our students “Real Education”. We don’t teach student how to express themselves, stand for themselves, debate, deliver, and prove themselves. We didn’t taught students to stand for themselves. If we ask how many practical subjects are there in our system its one or two in some standards in CBSE. Even so, many state board have no practical subject

Let’s now talk about the solution, there are few steps to be taken that can help. First step we can take is add subject named life skill (mandatory for every standard and every board in whole of India). This subject will have two part ---- theory and practical. Theory, which will be taught in regular school days in normal curriculum and other one will be life skill practical which can be taught on Sunday or regular days. The theory subject will teach us things like human phycology, habit building, accounting, finance, time management, stress management. The practical subject should be carried out practically with Physical things such as actually going to bank and open a bank account, debating and giving speeches, what to do in emergency (medical emergency, accident, fight, natural and man-made calamities), going to fire station to understand its working, fixing a water leak, calling a mechanic, calling a plumber. This all our life essential skills which should indeed be taught in schools to make India a global leader and set the standards for Indian education to prove the world what it actually means by education what it means to prioritize knowledge over information.

In Conclusion, most of India students are given information by not knowledge. So, we should teach life essential skills to Indian students with a new subject Life Skills. It should have two parts, theory and practical both teach life essentials by actually doing it rather than rote learning it.

Great Regards,

Hemal Pandya
